11-W-4 steel grating is a welded close-mesh panel with bearing bars at 11/16 in. (17.5 mm) on centre and cross bars at 4 in. (100 mm) on centre. Most orders are not shipped as full standard panels: they are cut to a layout drawing, banded on the cut ends, drilled or notched around steelwork, and delivered with the fixing clips needed to install them.

1. Panel Sizes We Produce

Parameter

Range

Panel width

2 ft (610 mm), 3 ft (914 mm), 1,000 mm metric

Panel length

Up to 24 ft (7,300 mm), cut-to-size per drawing

Standard stock panel

1,000 × 6,000 mm

Bearing bar

3/4–2-1/2 in. deep (19–63 mm) × 3/16 in. (5 mm)

Cross bar

Twisted square bar, 5 / 6 / 8 mm

Surface

Plain or serrated

Finish

Hot-dip galvanized to ASTM A123 / ISO 1461, average ≥ 85 µm (≈ 610 g/m²)

Bearing bars must run across the span, perpendicular to the supporting beams. Send the support layout with the enquiry, not just the panel sizes, so the cut list matches the steelwork.

2. End Banding and Cut-Edge Treatment

Every panel cut during fabrication is closed with a band, a flat bar welded across the ends of the bearing bars. Banding does two jobs: it stops the bearing bars spreading under load, and it gives the cut edge a finished, non-snagging face.

· Panels cut to length at the factory are banded and then galvanized, so the band is coated with everything else.

· Panels cut on site are not galvanized afterwards. Cut ends must be banded on site and the exposed steel coated with zinc-rich paint to restore protection.

· Nosing bars are added to stair treads and platform edges where a visual and tactile edge is required.

3. Cut-outs, Notches and Holes

Columns, pipes, cable trays and handrail posts all pass through grating floors. We cut:

· Rectangular and circular cut-outs around penetrations

· Notches at panel corners to fit around beams

· Half panels and odd shapes against walls or equipment skirts

Where a cut-out removes bearing bars, the opening is framed with a band or an angle trim so the load path is restored. Give us the penetration coordinates on the drawing and the framing is included in the panel, not improvised on site.

4. Packing and Loading

Panels are stacked on steel or timber pallets, strapped in bundles with a controlled bundle weight for safe forklift handling, and wrapped for sea freight. Bundles are labelled by panel mark so the installer can match them to the layout drawing without measuring every piece. Standard packing is included; seaworthy export packing with additional wrapping is available for long voyages.
